Huddersfield Pharmacy Specials (HPS) has been contracted to develop new drugs for the MND-SMART clinical trial, which is designed to test potential treatments for motor neuron disease.

The MND-SMART trial is adaptive, allowing researchers to modify the drugs being tested based on emerging results. It’s a phase 2/3 trial, which means that if drugs appear to be effective, they will seamlessly transition into phase 3 without the need for additional permissions or trial participants.

HPS manufactured the current drugs being used in the trial (Memantine, Trazodone, Amantadine, and Placebo) and will be formulating new drugs into liquid form. HPS has extensive experience in contract manufacturing and clinical trials, making them an ideal partner for innovative trials like MND-SMART.
